Historic Sites in Union County

EmbaymentOnce covered with water, Union County soil holds many remnants of the past.  Fossils in many shapes, sizes and ages from the hills, valley and creeks tell us that large, extince creatures once lived here.  Late Cretaceous Period fossils can be found in many sites in Union County.

Examples of the Large Megafauna of the Ice Age have also been found in Union County.

Ice Age Mammals in Union COunty
See the fossilized skulls of a saber tooth cat, a dire wolf and a short fac bear.  These fantastic creatures and others roamed what would become Union County approximately two million years ago up until the end of the Ice Age, approximately 20,000 years ago.
